Aboriginal Communities

Aboriginal language work is supported by the State government as part of a strategic plan that links community language work with language education work in schools, gaols and detention centres, and with appreciation of Aboriginal languages in the wider community.

On 9 July 2008, the ALRRC presented at Bayala Ngarala, the

Language Institute's three day forum on the revival and maintenance of Australian Indigenous languages. Copies of the presentation and speaking notes can be downloaded here.

Community language work

The Language Centre provides Aboriginal communities with advice and funding to undertake language work. The advice to community can include links to funding sources, linguistic research techniques (such as archiving and documentation), community workshops, and contact with language professionals (such as linguists and teachers).
